Construction Plant Operator Test Options.

The Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) is a card scheme to prove the skills of plant operators, CPCS is the largest and most highly recognised card scheme for the plant industry. It helps to prove workers  operating skills and health and safety awareness, reinforced by each card holder passing the Health & Safety Test

Most tests must be carried out at a registered CPCS test centre, unless the test is for a specialised item of equipment, then it can be conducted at the location the equipment is situated at, ie: Motor Scraper, Tractor Dozer, Dump truck, Grader.

The Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) provides a single skills card for the plant sector of the Construction Industry.

Step 1 a practical test of ability and a theory test (which will incorporate relevant questions relating to underpinning knowledge of a specific category of plant or equipment, environment and Health and Safety related issues, also Operators rights and responsibilities. this will also be supported by a training syllabus,

Step 2 the CPCS Technical Test the practical part undertaken within time limits according to the item of equipment

To follow up within 2 years the S/NVQ will need to be achieved to upgrade to the blue Competence card, renewable by recording 300 working hours in the CPCS log book for each category of plant, or by the On site Assessment which will become the alternative to the logging of 300 operating hours in the Operators logbook, the test which can be completed at the operators workplace.

The lifespan of the red Trained Operator Card is 2 years to encourage operators to complete their S/NVQ sooner rather than later, therefore making registration for the S/NVQ an option at the time of attaining the Red CPCS card, dependent upon the operators employer or companies funding arrangements.

National Plant Operators Registration Scheme Limited (NPORS) is one of the UK’s leading accrediting bodies for; lift trucks recognised by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and Health & Safety Executive Northern Ireland (HSENI). NPORS also work in the following sectors; Industrial, Construction, Utilities, Warehousing and Distribution, Agricultural, Ports and Marine.

The main objective of NPORS is to allow Accredited Training Providers a flexible approach to meet the needs of the employer to help and assist in providing an adequately trained workforce within the UK, testing can be carried out on site, reducing costs for the candidate who can use the equipment they work with in taking the tests, again in two parts, theory and underpinning knowledge of the item of equipment, and the practical part in line with the test requirements, a card and certificate can be attained by successful candidates.
