Operator of this category of equipment must be tested at a CPCS Test
Centre, therefore meeting all the requirements of the Theory &
Practical elements of both tests.
Training
This training activity
is for potential and existing operators who have received no formal
instruction and those requiring refresher training:
Training will be given over a four day
period, achievement of a Two Year
Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) Trained Operator card will
be attained, it should also be noted that the achievement and the
obtaining of a CPCS card are dependant upon passing the Health and
Safety Test.
The updating of the red Trained Operator card to a CPCS
Competency Card is dependant upon completion of an NVQ Level 2 in
Plant Operations, Plant Operator.
The course content will include: Training
in the safe operation of the machine on all tasks for which the
machine has been designed for; ensuring that during the machines
operation it is used in a safe and productive manner, rolling
techniques, including the principles and purpose of compaction,
formation and road cambers, Carrying out routine daily servicing
procedures and general maintenance in accordance with the
manufacturers instructions; Also preparing and driving the equipment
on public highways, and work sites where applicable, loading it onto a
transporter in accordance with the requirements of the Road Traffic
Acts; The purpose and capabilities of their machine and any relevant
safety precautions necessary for its operation; How the machine is set
up for work and the maintenance requirements involved; The effects of
vibration, the compaction of materials on site or the Public Highway,
negotiating narrow openings, stability of the machine, The basic
construction of the equipment and its components.
